Reservations System

Online booking system servicing American Girl Store locations

Objectives

Provide American Girl brand styling for an OpenTable system implementation.

My role

UI Designer, Visual Designer

The flow

Using elements from the American Girl design system, I designed and annotated modal screens for development. Some features were not native to OpenTable‘s framework and they were willing to partner with us to have them created.

1. Choose a location

This is an edge case that would only appear if an experience was chosen prior to a location.

2. Choose an experience

All experiences required reservations prior to a visit. Multiple offerings could be booked in a single session.

3. Choose a package

Experience package details are shown here. Because of the height restriction of the modal and the long list of details, the “Read more” behavior was a new addition for this module.

4. Choose date, guests, and timeslot

The standard details about an appointment. One difference here was the Doll Salon is priced per doll instead of person.

5. Customer information

Reservations appear as stacked cards in the left sidebar. This example shows the solution for the product add-ons.

Conclusion

Moving American Girl’s online booking system to OpenTable made the reservation process more streamlined and minimized calls to Customer Service. Store staff were able to arrange reservations for same-day bookings and communication between the store experiences was greatly improved.
